Recycling Update 04082020

Recycling Update 04082020

MEMORANDUM

TO:            Mayor & Board of Commissioners

FROM:      Melissa P. Adams, Town Manager

 DATE:       April 8, 2020

SUBJECT: UPDATE – Trash pickup - Response to COVID-19

Due to manpower and vehicle constraints, Hope Mills residents will receive pick up of recycling containers; which are currently being used for additional household trash, on your normal recycling day.

There will be TWO trash pickups per week, one can on your regular trash day and one can on your recycling day.  EXCEPT those who normally have both trash and recycling picked up on Wednesday- when both cans will still be picked up on the same day.

Place your recycling containers (yellow lid) curbside for Wednesday pick up.  All recycling containers will be treated as household trash and contents taken to the Cumberland County landfill until further notice. Bag everything, your household trash and any items going into your recycling container.  As always have your containers curbside by 6:00 AM.

Our partners at Waste Management are committed to providing continuous service for our community and as a team, we thank you for your patience, understanding, and consideration during this time of uncertainty.

 DATE:           April 6, 2020

SUBJECT:    UPDATE - Response to COVID-19

Effective Monday, April 13, 2020, the Town of Hope Mills will suspend collection of recycling materials until further notice.  This revision is due to the effects of the COVID-19 virus.  Recycling containers (those with the yellow lids) may be used for extra household trash and placed curbside with your regular trash container for collection.  We recognize this change in policy adversely effects those who consciously recycle; however, the current pandemic climate compels this temporary shift in policy to accommodate the increase in household trash levels caused by the shelter in place order.  We will provide as much advance notice as possible when the normal recycling routine goes into effect.

For our residents that still want to participate in the recycling programs, the county container sites at 4759 Black Bridge Road and 7427 Camden Road are still open at this time.  Their days and hours of operation can be found on-line at Cumberland County Solid Waste .  Thank you for your patience and understanding during this viral outbreak.
