Employer Paid Life Insurance

The Town pays the entire premium for Basic Term Life Insurance and AD&D coverage for each employee according to their classification:

Full Time Employees

  • Basic Life Insurance: Your Annual Salary up to $110,000
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D): Your Annual Salary up to $110,000

Auxiliary / Part Time Employees

  • Basic Life Insurance: $2,500
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D): $2,500

Employer Paid Short Term Disability Insurance

The Town pays the entire premium for Short Term Disability Insurance for each full time employee.

  • 60% of Your Weekly Salary up to a Maximum of $750
  • 7 Day Waiting Period for Benefits to Begin
  • Up To 26 Weeks of Paid Benefits

Voluntary Life & AD&D

Voluntary life insurance/ad&d available up to $110,000 on employee and up to $30,000 on spouse; $5,000 or $10,000 available for dependent children.

All Full-Time employees are offered the option to participate in flexible spending accounts that provide a way to save federal, state and social security taxes on eligible medical and dependent care expenses. Employees choose an amount to be withheld from their pay checks before taxes are applied.

The Town of Hope Mills offers 401(k), Roth 401(k), and 457 plans for employees and makes a 5% contribution for all employees.

Each regular full-time employee is required to join the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System as a condition of employment starting the first day of employment. A 6% employee contribution is deducted from pay for the retirement plan. An employee becomes vested in the retirement plan after five years of creditable service.

This secure site enables you to view your personal information, account information, and other relevant details specific to your retirement system account.

The Town of Hope Mills provides a valuable benefit to all employees and their immediate family members known as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP offers help for personal and/or professional concerns by providing free, confidential, short-term counseling and personal consultation.

Some examples of concerns that the EAP addresses include:

  • Alcohol or drug use
  • Communication breakdowns
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Family conflict
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship issues
  • Stress
  • Work related issues

The EAP staff at McLaughlin Young Employee Services is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ready to assist employees.

Direct Deposit

The Town requires direct deposit for all employees. This benefit has the Town send your pay directly to your checking or savings account rather than issuing a paper check so you do not have to go to the bank with a paper check. Employees are paid bi-weekly on Friday (exception for some holidays). 

Credit Union

All employees have the option of joining the N.C. Local Government Employees' Credit Union. In order to retain membership in the Credit Union, employees must have a minimum of $25 on deposit.
